The four-door Rapide and the compact city car Cygnet are two vehicles wearing the Aston Martin’s winged logo. As far as the British car builder is exploring vehicles in a different light, fans of the Aston Martin brand can rest assured the dedication to sports car motoring is at their core. Auto racing has been a continuing assertion that Aston Martin is a high-performance luxury marque eager to contend on the track as hard as on the showroom floor. Set to replace the long-serving Aston Martin DBRS9 competition car (a vehicle competing on sports car circuits since 2005), the Vantage GT3 race car will become the British sports car brand’s newest mechanical athlete.
Constructed on a lightweight yet solid aluminum structure, the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 car is specially trimmed for drivers and teams to aggressively attack the world’s greatest race circuits including Spa-Francorchamps and the Nurburgring. Modeled after the 0,000 US stock Aston Martin V12 Vantage, the Vantage GT3 race car preserves a cunning likeness to the street-going sports car. The Aston Martin Vantage GT3 receives a properly fitted aerodynamic package designed to channel airflow for perfected downforce and reduced turbulence. Part of this Vantage GT3 car’s aerodynamic adjustment includes the adjustable carbon fiber rear wing. This large rear wing is perhaps the most striking characteristic serving to define the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 race car from the road car.
Despite the added body components, the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 goes on a considerable diet shedding 948 pounds from the production street car. Overall weighing just under 2,756 pounds, the competition-based sports car travels on a performance-tested suspension and braking system. Anti-lock braking is still present on this race vehicle adjusted specially for motorsports.

Following GT2 and GT4 category race cars prepared over the years for various competitions, the Aston Martin Vantage in GT3 trim will be the first time the sports car’s mighty V-12 engine will serve as the basis for optimized race performance. Using the 6-liter, 12-cylinder powerplant similar to that found in the V12 Vantage, the engine’s conversion to racing is quite natural. Lightweight construction and a dry-sump oil system are attributes in common between vehicle genres. Aston Martin racing engineers found 90 extra horsepower from the V-12 engine allowing the Vantage GT3 to compete with 600 horsepower. Under the hood of the Aston Martin Vantage GT3, some subtle adjustments reposition the engine in a more suitable location conducive of better handling.
Well-known motorsport gearbox outfitter Xtrac is supplying the transmission connected to the 6-liter V12 engine. Positioned towards the rear limited-slip axle, the Xtrac 6-speed manual is controlled by a driver through steering wheel paddles.
Built around an FIA-spec steel roll cage, the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 cockpit is obviously void of the creature comforts connected to the street car. A carbon fiber dash panel, adjustable pedals and a racing seat featuring a 6-point racing harness is set in place for the utilitarian interior. The full array of vehicle controls, driver display and data logging equipment is found inside the Vantage GT3 in efforts to best foster the search for the auto racing competitive edge. A fire suppression system is fitted in the case when auto racing meets a worst-case scenario.

google_ad_client=”pub-8213487891390535″;google_ad_slot=”6677373126″;google_ad_width=468;google_ad_height=60;

With a strong racing pedigree and modern construction, the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 has the ingredients to soon become a threat to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG as well as BMW Z4 race cars in the rich, European motorsport environment. The Aston Martin Vantage GT3 racing car is will undergo track testing in October in preparations of the 2012 sports car competition season. Race teams wishing to run the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 will be paying £298,000 (about 8,000) for the privilege of running this latest member of the British sports car competition family. In the 2012 racing season, motorsport fans can expect the Vantage GT3 car to be lapping tracks within a variety of top caliber racing series’ including the FIA GT3 Championship and the Blancpain Endurance Series.
Information and photo source: Aston Martin
© Chris Nagy – visit Automoblog.net for more great content.
Related posts:Aston Martin V12 Vantage – Pricing AnnouncedThe New Aston Martin V12 Vantage RS – A Shot Aimed Square at MaranelloAston Martin V8 Vantage N420 Promo Video

Resurrecting the Lotus brand with legendary names is certain to spark enthusiasts attention (as appears to have already happened through the mass Paris Motor Show). However, Lotus Cars’ renewed focus also includes recognizing the current exotic auto company. Among the future Lotus offerings expected through the next 5 years, the Elise name is shown after 2015 with a new lease on life.
The first all-new Lotus sports car marketed after the auto brand’s acquisition by their current corporate parent Proton, the Lotus Elise made a statement that core values of Lotus have not been lost. Built in the tradition of the Colin Chapman’s Lotus Seven, the Elise became a super-lightweight pleasure vessel making the most of a small four-cylinder engine. Out in Europe since 1996, the tiny sub-five second ride did not enchant North America soil until the 2005 model year when the NHTSA (National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration) made a temporary exemption for the Elise. Receiving a well-earned redesign after what will be 13 years without a major change, the 2015 Lotus Elise projects that the high-speed small car’s adventure is just starting.

Weighing less than a current Chevrolet Aveo, the 2015 Lotus Elise gently taps the scale at 1,095 kilograms (approximately 2,409 pounds). Assembled with the continuous dedication to low-weight materials, Lotus’ smallest car embodies the most youthful look of the new sports vehicle lineup. Lotus has said to have retained elements of the current Elise design. Apparently, those cues are flooded with a deeper inspiration from Lotus’ styling look forward. Besides enhancing performance and good taste, the 2015 Lotus Elise grace is also more considerate to driver and passenger. Unlike the current version of this compact sports car where cabin ingress for moderately-proportioned individuals is similar to trying on a tight pair of jeans, the upcoming Elise features a more accommodating set of doors allowing for an easier entry and exit.
More so with the 2015 Elise, modern Lotus styling touches inside capture an aggressive look. The Lotus Elise’s colourful, bright interior features the simple charm of a club racer is added to the aesthetics of a two-seat cabin. The use of silver accents along the doors and around the center console, the appearance of a tubular reinforcements commonly found in racing car is created.

google_ad_client=”pub-8213487891390535″;google_ad_slot=”6677373126″;google_ad_width=468;google_ad_height=60;
The entry-level of the future Lotus lineup, power is less robust than the Esprit. Serviced by a mid-mounted two liter, four-cylinder powerplant, nearly 316 horsepower and the Elise’s lightweight construction promises not to provide an entry-level performance experience. Acceleration times for the future Elise will fall from the current variant. Depending on whether the 2015 Lotus Elise owners elect for the 6-speed manual or the 7-speed dual clutch transmission, times are penciled to be about 4.3-4.5 seconds in a 0 to 62 miles per hour run. Top speeds just under 168 miles per hour rests at the upper performance echelon of this small Lotus.
Unlike the next-generation Lotus sports cars, the Elise will not be equipped with an optional KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System). Still potentially classified as a hybrid sports car (through my a mild hybrid), the Lotus Elise will employ an available stop/start system which shuts down the engine during idling conditions.
Another one of Lotus’ 2010 Paris Motor Show treats, the trick comes in waiting until Spring of 2015 when the first new Elises can be snatched at price equal to £35,000 (currently about ,600).
Information and photo source: Lotus Car via Newspress UK
© Automoblog.net – visit Automoblog.net for more great content.
Related posts:The New Lotus Family Part 4: Revved up Four-Door EterneThe New Lotus Family Part 2: The Smart, Sexy ElanThe New Lotus Family Part 1: Esprit Returns

The halo car of the Nissan brand, some angelic magic is set to be performed on this Japanese dream machine in 2012 model year.
Paraded in Japan and Europe first (in fact, it is already available for purchase outside of the United States as of October), the new Nissan GT-R’s is due stateside as a 2012 model year offering. Few details for the US spec GT-R have been released prior to the LA Auto Show for November 17th. However, a view of the European-based model gives American fans of this lauded Japanese supercar an indication of exactly what will be unveiled at this event.
Enhanced with what appears to be minor exterior touches, the messaging of the 2012 Nissan GT-R is reduces the vehicle’s drag coefficient from an already tight 0.27 to a more slippery 0.26. A larger front bumper fascia features more fins which also includes the turn signals. Not only accomplishing this task of aerodynamic efficiency, the front end restyling by Nissan engineers is credited with an increase in downforce by 10% to assist mechanical grip. On the rear side of the 2012 Nissan GT-R, an extended rear diffuser, larger quad tailpipe openings and an exhaust cooling duct are noticeable changes all made in the pursuit of perfecting the supercar’s performance prowess.
The already athletic suspension and road-handling package of the 2012 Nissan GT-R is refreshed. Aiding from additional rigidity of a aluminum-carbon composite strut supporting bar and a new support member inside the passenger side dash panel, the suspension geometry has been reworked for better steering and straight driving control. Improved Dunlop tires and new forged aluminum wheels shows off the GT-R new potential in front of larger disc brakes. While rallying the the 2012 Nissan GT-R’s handling response, the new wheel/tire look compliments the refreshed overall exterior with in five layers, Hyper Blue Black Chrome wheel colouring now available.

google_ad_client=”pub-8213487891390535″;google_ad_slot=”6677373126″;google_ad_width=468;google_ad_height=60;
Showing some drastically more flooring performance numbers, the European version of the Nissan GT-R has received a bump to 523 horsepower (a 38 horse advance after the United States’ 2011 GT-R). Also flourishing with a 21 additional foot-pounds of torque for a total of 451 units, new emission and engine electronic controls can be credited for the gain in performance. The 2012 Nissan GT-R engine is not the only drivetrain component receiving attention. The all-wheel drive ATTESA-E-TS control has been reconfigured with a SAVE mode replacing the Snow mode setting that augments torque and gear shifting for better fuel economy on highways. On the flip side, R mode controls the GT-R’s launch from a stand still as the twin-clutch transmission begins to filter through gears. A final addition to the drivetrain control of the 2012 Nissan GT-R is a two-wheel mode which activates under speeds under 6 miles per hour helping the supercar complete tighter turns.
The 2012 Nissan GT-R’s interior maintains a solid matte finish. Interior panels, air conditioning outlets and operating switches are all black in detail. Though the matte black interior could dull senses by itself, Nissan added a series of exotic details encompassing a race car appearance. Magnesium steering wheel-mounted paddle shift levers, carbon on the climate control panel and chrome-plated duct accents bring out high-performance charm. As a no cost option, GT-R buyers can choose to ride in Recaro Black buckets or a set of premium grade leather seats.
Showroom-ready for North America starting in early next year, the 2012 Nissan GT-R should not fall far from the current price tag just above ,000.
Information and photo source: Nissan and NewsPress UK
© Automoblog.net – visit Automoblog.net for more great content.
Related posts:2012 Lexus LFA Supercar Inspires Nurburgring Edition2011 Nissan JUKE Sport Cross2011 Nissan GT-R Upgraded

While a supercar has a high development cost for design and engineering, companies are advantaged with selling vehicles at a higher margins compared to more affordable vehicles. Spending 4 years bringing his design to life, supercar company founder Arash Farboud has given a dream form to his entrant to the super rare exotic vehicle category, the AF-10.
With exterior body completely consisting of carbon-reinforced, autoclave-carved panels the Arash AF-10 is guaranteed to be super light and sturdy. Combining with the aluminum honeycomb/Nomex sandwiched within carbon material, the rear half windows of the AF-10 employ a shatter and scratch resisting clear polymer. Coming together into a clean, aerodynamically-friendly supercar shape, the Arash AF-10 obtains a special elegance as it portrays itself as a speed demon. There are some elements of the Arash AF-10 exterior styling some astute exotic car fans might find derivative but the overall 183.6 inch long vehicle assembles itself in a very charming orchestration.
The creative juices of Arash has flowed most fluidly to designing the less exposed exterior details of the AF-10 supercar. Formulated through a combined steel, aluminum and carbon-fiber underside, the Arash AF-10 chassis uses race-based engineering practices. Exploring Formula 1 suspension technology, the supercar is given a nimble ride thanks to nickel-coated wishbone suspension system. Longer front wishbones have been lengthened to encourage better contact with road surfaces as the vehicle reaches an estimated top speed of 205 miles per hour. Enlisted to stop the AF-10, Arash outfitted the high-performance car with some equally remarkable braking. Ventilated ceramic brake discs are halted by AP Racing calipers. With 6-piston calipers slowing the rear wheels, 8-cylinder calipers slows the momentum of the AF-10’s Michelin Pilot tires in a prompt fashion.
While the Arash AF-10 is going to be a ratified high-performer, the powertrain of this exotic car is really not that exotic. An American 7 liter V-8 powerplant supplied by General Motors tuned for 550 horsepower and 475 pounds feet of torque. Apart from the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 model, the LS7 V-8 engine has also been transplanted into Hulme CanAm, another upfront supercar effort centered in New Zealand. The Arash supercar has been paired with a 6-speed Graziano GT-ME1 manual gearbox, this transmission also shifts the power of the barely-street legal Ariel Atom. Inside, the racing-style floor pedals have been organized specifically to aid ‘heel and toe’ driving.
Going in sale in Europe, the Arash AF10 supercar is ordered for £620,000 in the United Kingdom. According to current conversion rates (as of Sept 10th 2010), the British-built Arash AF10 will retail for the American equivalent of just under 6,000.
For England-based supercar fans, the chance to see the Arash AF10 in person presents itself in a festival of high-performance. The 2010 MPH: The Prestige and Performance Motor Show featuring Top Gear Live will display the Arash creation will be welcomed alongside other supercars including Aston Martin, McLaren, Ferrari as well as Porsche.
Information source: Arash Motor Company
Related posts:2012 Lexus LFA Supercar Inspires Nurburgring EditionFord Accessories Throws Party for 2011 Fiesta ReleaseHulme CanAm Supercar Revives Motorsport Greats

2010 is a busy year for the once obscure electric vehicle maker Tesla Motors. Taking over the former NUMMI factory through a partnership deal with Toyota and issuing their first stock market IPO over two weeks ago, the Palo Alto, California auto company has withstood the first barrage of eco-naysayers in the auto industry. Proving there is indeed a consumer appetite for electric vehicles, the Tesla Roadster has been the poster child for green vehicle coolness. Selling 1,200 Roadsters after 27 months available to the public, the elite supercar is on par with many of the exotic gasoline competition. For upcoming model year, Tesla Motors is adding a styling and equipment upgrade for the Roadster 2.5.
Working over the sports car exterior, the Tesla Roadster 2.5 has been remade to look more the part of a performance car adding forward air vents ahead of the front wheels and a rear diffuser. Leaving the smooth, cleaner body panels on early Tesla Roadsters which portrayed a more aerodynamically efficient look, this contour minimization had been typical electric car treatment (ie the GM EV-1 and the original Honda Insight). Another high-performance supercar touch added to the Roadster 2.5 is the directional forged wheels which could either come in black or silver.
With the 3-phase AC induction electric motor left unchanged, some of the hardware has been altered on the Tesla Roadster 2.5 model. Designed to deliver better driving performance in hotter climates, response is proposed to be livelier with the new car in all weather climates. 0-60 times remains a perky 3.7 seconds with Tesla quoting a 245 mile driving distance can be achieved between charges.

The rest of the Tesla Roadster 2.5 enhancements are catered to the improvement of occupant comfort. The interior of the new Tesla roadster has been reworked with several design changes meant to be eye-pleasing and comfortable. Reengineered front fender lining material couples with other noise deadening upgrades insures a quieter ride for an already silent-running electric sports car. Fitted with more supportive bucket seats equipped with lumbar support system to make the Tesla Roadster a constantly pleasureful ride. Speaking about pleasures, some electronic gadgets in the form of a touch-screen navigational system and a back-up camera are optional add-ons.
Besides selling the all-new Tesla Roadster 2.5 models on complete cars, the Silicon Valley-situated auto company has taken a cue from the computer world. Existing Tesla Roadster owners will be offered an opportunity to upgrade their vehicles to the current 2.5 version specifications.
Photo and information Source: Tesla Motors
© Gearhead Media – Please visit Automoblog.net for more great content.
Related posts:Tesla Roadster: Only 5 Days Left!

Exhaustively waiting to see the production version of Lexus’ long promised supercar, the 2012 Lexus LFA will soon exist as an awe-worthy piece of Japanese supercar art. With only 500 examples of these mid-engined cars slated to be hand-assembled by skilled automotive craftspersons in Japan, the wait for the first shipment will occur after December 2010. Even before the first car keys are handed to upper-class buyers, Lexus has just announced an even more limited edition of their halo supercar. Destined to be outfitted on 50 Lexus LFAs, the race-oriented Nurburgring Package is definitely not flash with the absence of dash.
A homage to the famous German race course, it initially appears that the name choice for this exclusive super high-performance could be intended as a strike against Germany’s finest luxury and sports car makers. In fact, the Nurburgring has been a second home to the Japanese designed and built high-performance achievement. Prototype versions of the Lexus LFA supercar had been lapping the Nurburgring’s Nordschleife circuit since 2004. Lately, the production version Lexus LFA added competition laps through the past two 24-Hour races on the Nurburgring track. That race car was the main contributor to the look of this limited edition Nurburgring Package.
Visually, fans of the LFA will draw their eyes to expanded front spoiler and the addition of a carbon fiber fixed-rear wing. Beyond reinforcing the sports car attitude, the Nurburgring Package aerodynamic enhancements is said to increase high-speed downforce. Unlike conventional Lexus LFA with 10 no extra cost exterior colours, the Nurburgring Package will limited the spectrum to only 3 such colour schemes. Wearing either black, whitest white and orange for the extensive carbon fiber construction, a fourth matte black exterior colour could be ordered for a extra cost. Without giving away the total price of the Lexus LFA with the Nurburgring Package, the Matte Black exterior paint finish adds an additional ,000 U.S. to the vehicle’s final tally.

Bumping the engine output from the 4.8 liter 10-cylinder powerplant by 10 horsepower, rear engine cover is now home to 562 total horses. A subtle kick his been added to the LFA’s sequentially-shifting transmission. Lexus has refined the gearbox software to translate shifts 0.05 seconds faster than previously achievable with the supercar. Appearing minor, this improvement in gear shifting will definitely be noticeable when adjusting your speed entering a sharp hairpin turn. Helping to attack the winding curves as well as maintain traction on straight roadways, high-grip tires and sport-tuned suspension will make the LFA feel complete in touch with your surroundings.
Selling more than just a faster LFA, Lexus is offering a full enriching experience of the Nurburgring Package. Along with the modified Lexus LFA, the performance package offers an expense-paid trip to the famous speed complex in Germany. Including co-pilot rides and a private training course with the Chief Instructor at the Nurburgring, the 50 lucky owners also receive a one-year pass allowing drivers to lap Nordschleife solo.

As for the price, the Nurburgring package adds a steep ,000 to the already 5,000 U.S. price tag of the 2012 Lexus LFA. By the way, the ,000 package also includes a special Nurburgring jacket.
Photo and Information Source: Lexus
© Gearhead Media – Please visit Automoblog.net for more great content.
Related posts:Lexus announces k Nürburgring package for LFAThe Lexus LFA Supercar is Finally HereLexus Announces the 2010 IS 350C F-Sport Special Edition

Any time Koenigsegg unveils a new car, it’s a truly special occasion. The Swedish supercar company just unveiled their latest creation at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show – they call it Agera.

Agera is a Swedish term that translates into English as “to act.” And act it does. The Agera is fitted with an incredibly powerful twin-turbo 4.7-liter V8 engine producing 910 horsepower (!) and 811 lb-ft of torque – all while running on regular-grade gasoline. The Agera rockets from 0 to 62 mph in 3.1 seconds, going on to 124 mph in only 5.8 more seconds, eventually hitting its top speed of 245 mph-ish. Holy crap this thing is fast!

Koenigsegg says they like to stick with tradition, which is why the Agera looks suspiciously like the CC lineup, first developed 15 years ago. A few tweaks and modern interpretations later, the car still looks futuristic.

Of course a lot of new technology went into the Agera, many of which is the first in the industry. They’ve went so far as to develop a new type of interior lighting they call “Ghost Light.” Through the use of invisible nanotubes, the lighting shines through what appears to be solid aluminum buttons. This is the stuff of concept cars, and only Koenigsegg would put it into production. The rest of the center console is carbon fiber, as is most of the car itself. A customizable display will show a range of metrics from G-forces, power, sat-nav, music, as well as a lap timer for those brave enough to take it to the track. Koenigsegg also claims their traction control system is the fastest adapting system available, auto-adjusting for different road conditions, driving styles, and of course it’s customizable.

Naturally, the Agera is a two-door, two-seater, and yes, it features their specialty dihedral synchro-helix doors. The car will be put into production in about six months and will be built right next to the incredible CCX and CCXR. Check out more pictures below:

Alright, I’m calling your bluff, Porsche. Here they are at the Geneva Motor Show, and Porsche comes out with this fantastic new concept car. Looks like a Carrera GT supercar that got too close to the campfire and melted…but in a good way.

Porsche calls it the 918 Spyder Concept, and says it’s fit with a V8 engine good for 500 horsepower, plus three electric motors which increase that number by around 215. The engine sits in the middle where it should be, seats two, and works as a plug-in hybrid. Sounds all fine and dandy, right? Well, here’s where it gets hard to believe.

Porsche claims the 918 Spyder delivers 78 miles per gallon. Not gonna happen. Here’s the thing – with alternate propulsion, it’s tough to measure metrics like mpg fairly, especially when it comes to certain types of hybrids, which can run on electric power alone for a while. I commend Porsche for making the car – it’s very cool – but you can’t go spewing out numbers like that unless it’s real-world applicable. If I’m wrong about this, I’ll gladly eat my words.
