The famous double-decker buses that travel the streets of London Town are finally getting an upgrade. Northern Ireland’s Wrightbus has officially won a contract to build London’s next generation double-decker bus. It will be called the Routemaster and will look like a giant vitamin (or Vet-a-mine as they pronounce it in UK). The initial design concept came from Capoco Design. That drawing was given to Wrightbus and made ready for actual use on the streets of London.
Having been blessed by Mayor Boris Johnson of London himself, the new Routemaster will be showing up on British roads in 2012.
2012’s Routemaster is roughly ten feet longer than the old Routemaster, though it seats two fewer people. The 62 riders will have a better time of it getting in and out with three points of entry. Two staircases inside the bus provide easier access to all areas of the bus. An extensive use of glass aims to keep the bus more opened, and allows the tourist set to gawk at everyday commuters.
